ABOUT A BOY NAMED SYLVESTER AFTER SURGERY APRIL 2007
|
Dear friends and family,
Please join me in celebrating the success of Sylvester’s operation!
Sylvester went into surgery on Tuesday, March 29th, and was discharged from the hospital on the following Saturday.
The growths were completely removed and the spine was fused where there had been an opening. Despite the swelling,
you can see from the attached photos that Sylvester is a whole new boy.
Amazingly, the entire cost of the procedure – including transportation, food and hospital bills – came to less than $400.
Once he has recuperated from the back surgery, he will be re-admitted for a surgery to correct his club foot, and
possibly later for his teeth (which are trapped in his gums and unable to descend).
Even more good news…The Dunga Orphanage Project, an organization based in Kisumu with ties to Anacortes, WA, has
invited Sylvester to be a part of their home and school. Thanks to a friend named Micah, who recently visited us in
Kisumu, Sylvester’s care at the orphanage will be completely sponsored.
Thank you so much for your prayers and concern for Sylvester. He was literally beaming when we came to see him, very
much aware of the change he had undergone. It’s hard to believe that a year ago, this little boy was spending most of his
time alone and hungry in a mud hut while his seven cousins – all orphans being raised by the grandmother – went to
school.
Someday, Sylvester will grow up and tell how his life changed simply because people thousands of miles away saw his
picture, read his story, and felt moved.
