Rachelle is reunited with Zawa in January 2007 after four months of fundraising in the U.S.

Zawadi changed my life in October of 2005, when I took her in as a foster-child at 10
months of age. When I first brought her home, her malnourished condition was so severe
that most people believed she would not live a week longer (see photos below).
However, Zawa beat all the odds and blossomed into a beautiful, active child. What
originally began as a temporary custody agreement has developed into legal guardianship
of Zawa. My husband Seth and I are also in the midst of negotiation with her biological
family for legal adoption.

When I first received Zawa in October of 2005, she weighed just 7 pounds at 10 months of age.
