Sophia Imara Okumu
Born Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 11:43 am,
weighing 3.5 kilos (7 pounds).
Her middle name, Imara, is Kiswahili for "strength".
Thanks to all of you for your prayers and words of encouragement! It was a physical
challenge like I have never been through (no epidural or painkillers). I am still not sure
how I got through it, but it probably had a lot to do with amazing nurses, plus Dick,
Sandy and my close friend Amy in the delivery room with me. Sophia was very
determined to stay in the womb a little bit longer, which made those last moments of
labor agonizing; however, after what felt like the 100th push, she made her dramatic
entrance into the world. Minutes later, a smiling Seth arrived straight from work two
hours away to be presented with his daughter.
Seth and I are thrilled to have such a healthy, beautiful baby girl, and Zawa is
enamored with her little sister. It's a really special time for the four of us.
